yóu dà wáng yuē yǎ jìng zài wèi dì sān nián , bā bǐ lún wáng ní bù jiǎ ní sā lái dào yē lù sā lěng , jiāng chéng wéi kùn 。

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

殿

zhǔ jiàng yóu dà wáng yuē yǎ jìng , bìng shén diàn zhōng qì mǐn de jǐ fēn jiāo fù tā shǒu 。 tā jiù bǎ zhè qì mǐn dài dào shì ná dì , shōu rù tā shén de miào lǐ , fàng zài tā shén de kù zhōng 。

The Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god. He brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

wáng fēn fù tài jian cháng yà shī pí ná , cóng yǐ sè liè rén de zōng shì hé guì zhòu zhōng dài jìn jǐ gè rén lái ,

The king spoke to Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the children of Israel, even of the royal offspring and of the nobles:

jiù shì nián shào méi yǒu cán jí 、 xiàng mào jùn měi 、 tōng dá gè yàng xué wèn 、 zhī shi cōng ming jù bèi 、 zú néng shì lì zài wáng gōng lǐ de , yào jiào tā men jiā lè dǐ de wén zì yán yǔ 。

youths in whom was no defect, but well-favored, skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding science, and who had the ability to stand in the king’s palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.

wáng pài dìng jiāng zì jǐ suǒ yòng de shàn hé suǒ yǐn de jiǔ , měi rì cì tā men yì fēn , yǎng tā men sān nián 。 mǎn le sān nián , hǎo jiào tā men zài wáng miàn qián shì lì 。

The king appointed for them a daily portion of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years, that at its end they should stand before the king.

tā men zhōng jiān yǒu yóu dà zú de rén : dàn yǐ lǐ 、 hā ná ní yǎ 、 mǐ shā lì 、 yà sā lì yǎ 。

Now among these of the children of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

tài jiān cháng gěi tā men qǐ míng : chēng dàn yǐ lǐ wèi bó tí shā sā , chēng hā ná ní yǎ wèi shā dé lā , chēng mǐ shā lì wèi mǐ shà , chēng yà sā lì yǎ wèi yà bó ní gē 。

The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

dàn yǐ lǐ què lì zhì bù yǐ wáng de shàn hé wáng suǒ yǐn de jiǔ diàn wū zì jǐ , suǒ yǐ qiú tài jian cháng róng tā bú diàn wū zì jǐ 。

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

shén shǐ dàn yǐ lǐ zài tài jian cháng yǎn qián méng ēn huì , shòu lián mǐn 。

Now God made Daniel find kindness and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.

:「使。」

tài jiān cháng duì dàn yǐ lǐ shuō :「 wǒ jù pà wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng , tā yǐ jīng pài dìng nǐ men de yǐn shí , tǎng ruò tā jiàn nǐ men de miàn mào bǐ nǐ men tóng suì de shào nián rén jī shòu , zěn me hǎo ne ? zhè yàng , nǐ men jiù shǐ wǒ de tóu zài wáng nà lǐ nán bǎo 。」

The prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink. For why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths who are of your own age? Then you would endanger my head with the king.”

dàn yǐ lǐ duì tài jian cháng suǒ pài guǎn lǐ dàn yǐ lǐ 、 hā ná ní yǎ 、 mǐ shā lì 、 yà sā lì yǎ de wěi bàn shuō :

Then Daniel said to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

「 qiú nǐ shì shì pú rén men shí tiān , gěi wǒ men sù cài chī , bái shuǐ hē ,

“Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.

!」

rán hòu kàn kàn wǒ men de miàn mào hé yòng wáng shàn nà shào nián rén de miàn mào , jiù zhào nǐ suǒ kàn de dài pú rén ba !」

Then let our faces be examined before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king’s delicacies; and as you see, deal with your servants.”

便

wěi bàn biàn yǔn zhǔn tā men zhè jiàn shì , shì kàn tā men shí tiān 。

So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.

guò le shí tiān , jiàn tā men de miàn mào bǐ yòng wáng shàn de yí qiè shào nián rén gèng jiā jùn měi féi pàng 。

At the end of ten days, their faces appeared fairer and they were fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate of the king’s delicacies.

yú shì wěi bàn chè qù pài tā men yòng de shàn , yǐn de jiǔ , gěi tā men sù cài chī 。

So the steward took away their delicacies and the wine that they were given to drink, and gave them vegetables.

zhè sì gè shào nián rén , shén zài gè yàng wén zì xué wèn shàng cì gěi tā men cōng ming zhī shi ; dàn yǐ lǐ yòu míng bái gè yàng de yì xiàng hé mèng zhào 。

Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

ní bù jiǎ ní sā wáng yù dìng dài jìn shào nián rén lái de rì qī mǎn le , tài jian cháng jiù bǎ tā men dài dào wáng miàn qián 。

At the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

wáng yǔ tā men tán lùn , jiàn shào nián rén zhōng wú yì rén néng bǐ dàn yǐ lǐ 、 hā ná ní yǎ 、 mǐ shā lì 、 yà sā lì yǎ , suǒ yǐ liú tā men zài wáng miàn qián shì lì 。

The king talked with them; and among them all was found no one like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood before the king.

wáng kǎo wèn tā men yí qiè shì , jiù jiàn tā men de zhì huì cōng ming bǐ tōng guó de shù shì hé yòng fǎ shù de shèng guò shí bèi 。

In every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.

dào sāi lǔ shì wáng yuán nián , dàn yǐ lǐ hái zài 。

Daniel continued even to the first year of King Cyrus.
