nà shí , tiān xià rén de kǒu yīn 、 yán yǔ dōu shì yí yàng 。

The whole earth was of one language and of one speech.

tā men wǎng dōng biān qiān yí de shí hòu , zài shì ná dì yù jiàn yí piàn píng yuán , jiù zhù zài nà lǐ 。

As they traveled east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they lived there.

:「。」

tā men bǐ cǐ shāng liáng shuō :「 lái ba ! wǒ men yào zuò zhuān , bǎ zhuān shāo tòu le 。」 tā men jiù ná zhuān dāng shí tou , yòu ná shí qī dāng huī ní 。

They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.

:「。」

tā men shuō :「 lái ba ! wǒ men yào jiàn zào yí zuò chéng hé yí zuò tǎ , tǎ dǐng tōng tiān , wèi yào chuán yáng wǒ men de míng , miǎn de wǒ men fēn sàn zài quán dì shàng 。」

They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”

yē hé huá jiàng lín , yào kàn kàn shì rén suǒ jiàn zào de chéng hé tǎ 。

The LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.

:「

yē hé huá shuō :「 kàn nǎ , tā men chéng wéi yí yàng de rén mín , dōu shì yí yàng de yán yǔ , rú jīn jì zuò qǐ zhè shì lái , yǐ hòu tā men suǒ yào zuò de shì jiù méi yǒu bù chéng jiù de le 。

The LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.

使。」

wǒ men xià qù , zài nà lǐ biàn luàn tā men de kǒu yīn , shǐ tā men de yán yǔ bǐ cǐ bù tōng 。」

Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

使

yú shì yē hé huá shǐ tā men cóng nà lǐ fēn sàn zài quán dì shàng ; tā men jiù tíng gōng , bú zào nà chéng le 。

So the LORD scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.

使

yīn wèi yē hé huá zài nà lǐ biàn luàn tiān xià rén de yán yǔ , shǐ zhòng rén fēn sàn zài quán dì shàng , suǒ yǐ nà chéng míng jiào bā bié 。

Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth. From there, the LORD scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.

tā lā de hòu dài jì zài xià miàn 。 tā lā shēng yà bó lán 、 ná hè 、 hā lán ; hā lán shēng luó dé 。

Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.

hā lán sǐ zài tā de běn dì jiā lè dǐ de wú ěr , zài tā fù qīn tā lā zhī xiān 。

Haran died in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees, while his father Terah was still alive.

Abram and Nahor married wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, who was also the father of Iscah.

sā lái bù shēng yù , méi yǒu hái zi 。

Sarai was barren. She had no child.

Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife. They went from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. They came to Haran and lived there.

tā lā gòng huó le èr bǎi líng wǔ suì , jiù sǐ zài hā lán 。

The days of Terah were two hundred five years. Terah died in Haran.
