wǒ de dì xiong men , bú yào duō rén zuò shī fu , yīn wèi xiǎo de wǒ men yào shòu gèng zhòng de pàn duàn 。

Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.

yuán lái wǒ men zài xǔ duō shì shàng dōu yǒu guò shī ; ruò yǒu rén zài huà yǔ shàng méi yǒu guò shī , tā jiù shì wán quán rén , yě néng lè zhù zì jǐ de quán shēn 。

For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.

wǒ men ruò bǎ jiáo huán fàng zài mǎ zuǐ lǐ , jiào tā shùn fú , jiù néng diào dòng tā de quán shēn 。

Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body.

kàn nǎ , chuán zhī suī rán shèn dà , yòu bèi dà fēng cuī bī , zhī yòng xiǎo xiǎo de duò , jiù suí zhe zhǎng duò de yì sī zhuàn dòng 。

Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.

zhè yàng , shé tou zài bǎi tǐ lǐ yě shì zuì xiǎo de , què néng shuō dà huà 。 kàn nǎ , zuì xiǎo de huǒ néng diǎn zháo zuì dà de shù lín 。

So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest!

shé tou jiù shì huǒ , zài wǒ men bǎi tǐ zhōng , shé tou shì gè zuì è de shì jiè , néng wū huì quán shēn , yě néng bǎ shēng mìng de lún zǐ diǎn qǐ lái , bìng qiě shì cóng dì yù lǐ diǎn zháo de 。

And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna.

gè lèi de zǒu shòu 、 fēi qín 、 kūn chóng 、 shuǐ zú , běn lái dōu kě yǐ zhì fú , yě yǐ jīng bèi rén zhì fú le ;

For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind;

wéi dú shé tóu méi yǒu rén néng zhì fú , shì bù zhǐ xī de è wù , mǎn le hài sǐ rén de dú qì 。

but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

wǒ men yòng shé tou sòng zàn nà wéi zhǔ 、 wèi fù de , yòu yòng shé tou zhòu zǔ nà zhào zhe shén xíng xiàng bèi zào de rén 。

With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in the image of God.

sòng zàn hé zhòu zǔ cóng yí gè kǒu lǐ chū lái ! wǒ de dì xiong men , zhè shì bú yīng dāng de !

Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.

quán yuán cóng yí gè yǎn lǐ néng fā chū tián kǔ liǎng yàng de shuǐ ma ?

Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?

wǒ de dì xiong men , wú huā guǒ shù néng shēng gǎn lǎn ma ? pú táo shù néng jié wú huā guǒ ma ? xián shuǐ lǐ yě bù néng fā chū tián shuǐ lái 。

Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.

nǐ men zhōng jiān shuí shì yǒu zhì huì yǒu jiàn shi de ne ? tā jiù dāng zài zhì huì de wēn róu shàng xiǎn chū tā de shàn xíng lái 。

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.

怀

nǐ men xīn lǐ ruò huái zhe kǔ dú de jí dù hé fēn zhēng , jiù bù kě zì kuā , yě bù kě shuō huǎng huà dǐ dǎng zhēn dào 。

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.

zhè yàng de zhì huì bú shì cóng shàng tóu lái de , nǎi shì shǔ dì de , shǔ qíng yù de , shǔ guǐ mó de 。

This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.

zài hé chù yǒu jí dù 、 fēn zhēng , jiù zài hé chù yǒu rǎo luàn hé gè yàng de huài shì 。

For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.

wéi dú cóng shàng tóu lái de zhì huì , xiān shì qīng jié , hòu shì hé píng , wēn liáng róu shùn , mǎn yǒu lián mǐn , duō jié shàn guǒ , méi yǒu piān jiàn , méi yǒu jiǎ mào 。

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

使

bìng qiě shǐ rén hé píng de , shì yòng hé píng suǒ zāi zhòng de yì guǒ 。

Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
