Job 7

rén zài shì shàng qǐ wú zhēng zhàn ma ? tā de rì zi bú xiàng gù gōng rén de rì zi ma ?

“Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth? Aren’t his days like the days of a hired hand?

xiàng nú pú qiè mù hēi yǐng , xiàng gù gōng rén pàn wàng gōng jià ;

As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow, as a hireling who looks for his wages,

wǒ yě zhào yàng jīng guò kùn kǔ de rì yuè , yè jiān de pí fá wèi wǒ ér dìng 。

so I am made to possess months of misery, wearisome nights are appointed to me.

便

wǒ tǎng wò de shí hòu biàn shuō : wǒ hé shí qǐ lái , hēi yè jiù guò qù ne ? wǒ jìn shì fǎn lái fù qù , zhí dào tiān liàng 。

When I lie down, I say, ‘When will I arise, and the night be gone?’ I toss and turn until the dawning of the day.

wǒ de ròu tǐ yǐ chóng zǐ hé chén tǔ wèi yī ; wǒ de pí fū cái shōu le kǒu yòu chóng xīn pò liè 。

My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust. My skin closes up, and breaks out afresh.

wǒ de rì zi bǐ suō gèng kuài , dōu xiāo hào zài wú zhǐ wàng zhī zhōng 。

My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.

qiú nǐ xiǎng niàn , wǒ de shēng mìng bú guò shì yì kǒu qì ; wǒ de yǎn jīng bì bú zài jiàn fú lè 。

Oh remember that my life is a breath. My eye will no more see good.

guān kàn wǒ de rén , tā de yǎn bì bú zài jiàn wǒ ; nǐ de yǎn mù yào kàn wǒ , wǒ què bú zài le 。

The eye of him who sees me will see me no more. Your eyes will be on me, but I will not be.

yún cǎi xiāo sàn ér guò ; zhào yàng , rén xià yīn jiān yě bú zài shàng lái 。

As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol will come up no more.

tā bú zài huí zì jǐ de jiā ; gù tǔ yě bú zài rèn shi tā 。

He will return no more to his house, neither will his place know him any more.

wǒ bù jīn zhǐ wǒ kǒu ; wǒ líng chóu kǔ , yào fā chū yán yǔ ; wǒ xīn kǔ nǎo , yào tǔ lù āi qíng 。

“Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

wǒ duì shén shuō : wǒ qǐ shì yáng hǎi , qǐ shì dà yú , nǐ jìng fáng shǒu wǒ ne ?

Am I a sea, or a sea monster, that you put a guard over me?

ruò shuō : wǒ de chuáng bì ān wèi wǒ , wǒ de tà bì jiě shì wǒ de kǔ qíng ,

When I say, ‘My bed will comfort me. My couch will ease my complaint,’

nǐ jiù yòng mèng jīng hài wǒ , yòng yì xiàng kǒng hè wǒ ,

then you scare me with dreams and terrify me through visions,

shèn zhì wǒ nìng kěn yē sǐ , nìng kěn sǐ wáng , shèng sì liú wǒ zhè yì shēn de gǔ tou 。

so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones.

wǒ yàn qì xìng mìng , bú yuàn yǒng huó 。 nǐ rèn píng wǒ ba , yīn wǒ de rì zi dōu shì xū kōng 。

I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.

rén suàn shén me , nǐ jìng kàn tā wèi dà , jiāng tā fàng zài xīn shàng ?

What is man, that you should magnify him, that you should set your mind on him,

měi zǎo jiàn chá tā , shí kè shì yàn tā ?

that you should visit him every morning, and test him every moment?

nǐ dào hé shí cái zhuǎn yǎn bú kàn wǒ , cái rèn píng wǒ yàn xià tuò mò ne ?

How long will you not look away from me, nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?

使

jiàn chá rén de zhǔ a , wǒ ruò yǒu zuì , yú nǐ hé fáng ? wèi hé yǐ wǒ dāng nǐ de jiàn bǎ zǐ , shǐ wǒ yàn qì zì jǐ de xìng mìng ?

If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself?

wèi hé bú shè miǎn wǒ de guò fàn , chú diào wǒ de zuì niè ? wǒ xiàn jīn yào tǎng wò zài chén tǔ zhōng ; nǐ yào yīn qín dì xún zhǎo wǒ , wǒ què bú zài le 。

Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity? For now will I lie down in the dust. You will seek me diligently, but I will not be.”
