yǒu yí gè huàn bìng de rén , míng jiào lā sā lù , zhù zài bó dà ní , jiù shì mǎ lì yà hé tā zǐ zǐ mǎ dà de cūn zhuāng 。

Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister, Martha.

zhè mǎ lì yà jiù shì nà yòng xiāng gāo mǒ zhǔ , yòu yòng tóu fa cā tā jiǎo de ; huàn bìng de lā sā lù shì tā de xiōng dì 。

It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.

:「。」

tā zǐ mèi liǎng gè jiù dǎ fā rén qù jiàn yē sū , shuō :「 zhǔ a , nǐ suǒ ài de rén bìng le 。」

The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, “Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick.”

:「 耀 耀。」

yē sū tīng jiàn , jiù shuō :「 zhè bìng bú zhì yú sǐ , nǎi shì wèi shén de róng yào , jiào shén de ér zi yīn cǐ dé róng yào 。」

But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”

yē sū sù lái ài mǎ dà hé tā mèi zǐ bìng lā sā lù 。

Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

tīng jiàn lā sā lù bìng le , jiù zài suǒ jū zhī dì réng zhù le liǎng tiān 。

When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was.

:「。」

rán hòu duì mén tú shuō :「 wǒ men zài wǎng yóu tài qù ba 。」

Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let’s go into Judea again.”

:「?」

mén tú shuō :「 lā bǐ , yóu tài rén jìn lái yào ná shí tou dǎ nǐ , nǐ hái wǎng nà lǐ qù ma ?」

The disciples asked him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”

:「

yē sū huí dá shuō :「 bái rì bú shì yǒu shí èr xiǎo shí ma ? rén zài bái rì zǒu lù , jiù bú zhì diē dǎo , yīn wèi kàn jiàn zhè shì shàng de guāng 。

Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

。」

ruò zài hēi yè zǒu lù , jiù bì diē dǎo , yīn wèi tā méi yǒu guāng 。」

But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”

:「。」

yē sū shuō le zhè huà , suí hòu duì tā men shuō :「 wǒ men de péng yǒu lā sā lù shuì le , wǒ qù jiào xǐng tā 。」

He said these things, and after that, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep.”

:「。」

mén tú shuō :「 zhǔ a , tā ruò shuì le , jiù bì hǎo le 。」

The disciples therefore said, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

yē sū zhè huà shì zhǐ zhe tā sǐ shuō de , tā men què yǐ wéi shì shuō zhào cháng shuì le 。

Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.

:「

yē sū jiù míng míng dì gào sù tā men shuō :「 lā sā lù sǐ le 。

So Jesus said to them plainly then, “Lazarus is dead.

。」

wǒ méi yǒu zài nà lǐ jiù huān xǐ , zhè shì wèi nǐ men de yuán gù , hǎo jiào nǐ men xiāng xìn 。 rú jīn wǒ men kě yǐ wǎng tā nà lǐ qù ba 。」

I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let’s go to him.”

:「。」

duō mǎ , yòu chēng wéi dī tǔ mǎ , jiù duì nà tóng zuò mén tú de shuō :「 wǒ men yě qù hé tā tóng sǐ ba 。」

Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s also go, that we may die with him.”

yē sū dào le , jiù zhī dào lā sā lù zài fén mù lǐ yǐ jīng sì tiān le 。

So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.

bó dà ní lí yē lù sā lěng bù yuǎn , yuē yǒu liù lǐ lù 。

Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away.

yǒu hǎo xiē yóu tài rén lái kàn mǎ dà hé mǎ lì yà , yào wèi tā men de xiōng dì ān wèi tā men 。

Many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.

mǎ dà tīng jiàn yē sū lái le , jiù chū qù yíng jiē tā ; mǎ lì yà què réng rán zuò zài jiā lǐ 。

Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.

:「

mǎ dà duì yē sū shuō :「 zhǔ a , nǐ ruò zǎo zài zhè lǐ , wǒ xiōng dì bì bù sǐ 。

Therefore Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.

。」

jiù shì xiàn zài , wǒ yě zhī dào , nǐ wú lùn xiàng shén qiú shén me , shén yě bì cì gěi nǐ 。」

Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”

:「。」

yē sū shuō :「 nǐ xiōng dì bì rán fù huó 。」

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

:「。」

mǎ dà shuō :「 wǒ zhī dào zài mò rì fù huó de shí hòu , tā bì fù huó 。」

Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

:「

yē sū duì tā shuō :「 fù huó zài wǒ , shēng mìng yě zài wǒ 。 xìn wǒ de rén suī rán sǐ le , yě bì fù huó ;

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.

?」

fán huó zhe xìn wǒ de rén bì yǒng yuǎn bù sǐ 。 nǐ xìn zhè huà ma ?」

Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

:「 。」

mǎ dà shuō :「 zhǔ a , shì de , wǒ xìn nǐ shì jī dū , shì shén de ér zi , jiù shì nà yào lín dào shì jiè de 。」

She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God’s Son, he who comes into the world.”

:「。」

mǎ dà shuō le zhè huà , jiù huí qù àn àn dì jiào tā mèi zǐ mǎ lì yà , shuō :「 fū zǐ lái le , jiào nǐ 。」

When she had said this, she went away and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, “The Teacher is here and is calling you.”

mǎ lì yà tīng jiàn le , jiù jí máng qǐ lái , dào yē sū nà lǐ qù 。

When she heard this, she arose quickly and went to him.

nà shí , yē sū hái méi yǒu jìn cūn zǐ , réng zài mǎ dà yíng jiē tā de dì fāng 。

Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.

nà xiē tóng mǎ lì yà zài jiā lǐ ān wèi tā de yóu tài rén , jiàn tā jí máng qǐ lái chū qù , jiù gēn zhe tā , yǐ wéi tā yào wǎng fén mù nà lǐ qù kū 。

Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

:「。」

mǎ lì yà dào le yē sū nà lǐ , kàn jiàn tā , jiù fǔ fú zài tā jiǎo qián , shuō :「 zhǔ a , nǐ ruò zǎo zài zhè lǐ , wǒ xiōng dì bì bù sǐ 。」

Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”

yē sū kàn jiàn tā kū , bìng kàn jiàn yǔ tā tóng lái de yóu tài rén yě kū , jiù xīn lǐ bēi tàn , yòu shèn yōu chóu ,

When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit and was troubled,

便:「?」:「。」

biàn shuō :「 nǐ men bǎ tā ān fàng zài nǎ lǐ ?」 tā men huí dá shuō :「 qǐng zhǔ lái kàn 。」

and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”

yē sū kū le 。

Jesus wept.

:「。」

yóu tài rén jiù shuō :「 nǐ kàn tā ài zhè rén shì hé děng kěn qiè 。」

The Jews therefore said, “See how much affection he had for him!”

:「?」

qí zhōng yǒu rén shuō :「 tā jì rán kāi le xiā zǐ de yǎn jīng , qǐ bù néng jiào zhè rén bù sǐ ma ?」

Some of them said, “Couldn’t this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?”

yē sū yòu xīn lǐ bēi tàn , lái dào fén mù qián ; nà fén mù shì gè dòng , yǒu yí kuài shí tou dǎng zhe 。

Jesus therefore, again groaning in himself, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.

:「。」:「。」

yē sū shuō :「 nǐ men bǎ shí tou nuó kāi 。」 nà sǐ rén de zǐ zǐ mǎ dà duì tā shuō :「 zhǔ a , tā xiàn zài bì shì chòu le , yīn wèi tā sǐ le yǐ jīng sì tiān le 。」

Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

:「 耀?」

yē sū shuō :「 wǒ bú shì duì nǐ shuō guò , nǐ ruò xìn , jiù bì kàn jiàn shén de róng yào ma ?」

Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?”

:「

tā men jiù bǎ shí tou nuó kāi 。 yē sū jǔ mù wàng tiān , shuō :「 fù a , wǒ gǎn xiè nǐ , yīn wèi nǐ yǐ jīng tīng wǒ 。

So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me.

。」

wǒ yě zhī dào nǐ cháng tīng wǒ , dàn wǒ shuō zhè huà shì wèi zhōu wéi zhàn zhe de zhòng rén , jiào tā men xìn shì nǐ chà le wǒ lái 。」

I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude standing around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”

:「!」

shuō le zhè huà , jiù dà shēng hū jiào shuō :「 lā sā lù chū lái !」

When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”

:「!」

nà sǐ rén jiù chū lái le , shǒu jiǎo guǒ zhe bù , liǎn shàng bāo zhuó shǒu jīn 。 yē sū duì tā men shuō :「 jiě kāi , jiào tā zǒu !」

He who was dead came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Free him, and let him go.”

nà xiē lái kàn mǎ lì yà de yóu tài rén jiàn le yē sū suǒ zuò de shì , jiù duō yǒu xìn tā de ;

Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what Jesus did believed in him.

dàn qí zhōng yě yǒu qù jiàn fǎ lì sài rén de , jiāng yē sū suǒ zuò de shì gào sù tā men 。

But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.

:「

jì sī zhǎng hé fǎ lì sài rén jù jí gōng huì , shuō :「 zhè rén xíng hǎo xiē shén jì , wǒ men zěn me bàn ne ?

The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, “What are we doing? For this man does many signs.

。」

ruò zhè yàng yóu zhe tā , rén rén dōu yào xìn tā , luó mǎ rén yě yào lái duó wǒ men de dì tǔ hé wǒ men de bǎi xìng 。」

If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”

:「

nèi zhōng yǒu yí gè rén , míng jiào gāi yà fǎ , běn nián zuò dà jì sī , duì tā men shuō :「 nǐ men bù zhī dào shén me 。

But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,

nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”

tā zhè huà bú shì chū yú zì jǐ , shì yīn tā běn nián zuò dà jì sī , suǒ yǐ yù yán yē sū jiāng yào tì zhè yì guó sǐ ;

Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,

yě bú dàn tì zhè yì guó sǐ , bìng yào jiāng shén sì sàn de zǐ mín dōu jù jí guī yī 。

and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

cóng nà rì qǐ , tā men jiù shāng yì yào shā yē sū

So from that day forward they took counsel that they might put him to death.

suǒ yǐ , yē sū bú zài xiǎn rán xíng zài yóu tài rén zhōng jiān , jiù lí kāi nà lǐ wǎng kào jìn kuàng yě de dì fāng qù , dào le yí zuò chéng , míng jiào yǐ fǎ lián , jiù zài nà lǐ hé mén tú tóng zhù 。

Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim. He stayed there with his disciples.

yóu tài rén de yú yuè jié jìn le , yǒu xǔ duō rén cóng xiāng xià shàng yē lù sā lěng qù , yào zài jié qián jié jìng zì jǐ 。

Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

殿:「?」

tā men jiù xún zhǎo yē sū , zhàn zài diàn lǐ bǐ cǐ shuō :「 nǐ men de yì sī rú hé , tā bù lái guò jié ma ?」

Then they sought for Jesus and spoke with one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that he isn’t coming to the feast at all?”

nà shí , jì sī zhǎng hé fǎ lì sài rén zǎo yǐ fēn fù shuō , ruò yǒu rén zhī dào yē sū zài nǎ lǐ , jiù yào bào míng , hǎo qù ná tā 。

Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.
