Nehemiah 5
bǎi xìng hé tā men de qī dà dà hū háo , mán yuàn tā men de dì xiong yóu dà rén 。
Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brothers the Jews.
有的说:「我们和儿女人口众多,要去得粮食度命」;
yǒu de shuō :「 wǒ men hé ér nǚ rén kǒu zhòng duō , yào qù dé liáng shí dù mìng 」;
For there were some who said, “We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”
有的说:「我们典了田地、葡萄园、房屋,要得粮食充饥」;
yǒu de shuō :「 wǒ men diǎn le tián dì 、 pú táo yuán 、 fáng wū , yào dé liáng shí chōng jī 」;
There were also some who said, “We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain, because of the famine.”
yǒu de shuō :「 wǒ men yǐ jīng zhǐ zhe tián dì 、 pú táo yuán , jiè le qián gěi wáng nà shuì 。
There were also some who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral.
wǒ men de shēn tǐ yǔ wǒ men dì xiong de shēn tǐ yí yàng ; wǒ men de ér nǚ yǔ tā men de ér nǚ yì bān 。 xiàn zài wǒ men jiāng yào shǐ ér nǚ zuò rén de pú bì , wǒ men de nǚ ér yǐ yǒu wèi bì de ; wǒ men bìng wú lì zhěng jiù , yīn wèi wǒ men de tián dì 、 pú táo yuán yǐ jīng guī le bié rén 。」
Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Behold, we bring our sons and our daughters into bondage to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. It is also not in our power to help it, because other men have our fields and our vineyards.”
wǒ tīng jiàn tā men hū háo shuō zhè xiē huà , biàn shèn fā nù 。
I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.
wǒ xīn lǐ chóu huà , jiù chì zé guì zhòu hé guān zhǎng shuō :「 nǐ men gè rén xiàng dì xiong qǔ lì !」 yú shì wǒ zhāo jù dà huì gōng jī tā men 。
Then I consulted with myself, and contended with the nobles and the rulers, and said to them, “You exact usury, everyone of his brother.” I held a great assembly against them.
wǒ duì tā men shuō :「 wǒ men jìn lì shú huí wǒ men dì xiong , jiù shì mài yǔ wài bāng de yóu dà rén ; nǐ men hái yào mài dì xiōng , shǐ wǒ men shú huí lái ma ?」 tā men jiù jìng mò bù yǔ , wú huà kě dá 。
I said to them, “We, after our ability, have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the nations; and would you even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us?” Then they held their peace, and found not a word to say.
wǒ yòu shuō :「 nǐ men suǒ xíng de bú shàn ! nǐ men xíng shì bù dāng jìng wèi wǒ men de shén ma ? bù rán , nán miǎn wǒ men de chóu dí wài bāng rén huǐ bàng wǒ men 。
Also I said, “The thing that you do is not good. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies?
wǒ hé wǒ de dì xiong yǔ pú rén yě jiāng yín qián liáng shí jiè gěi bǎi xìng ; wǒ men dà jiā dōu dāng miǎn qù lì xī 。
I likewise, my brothers and my servants, lend them money and grain. Please let us stop this usury.
rú jīn wǒ quàn nǐ men jiāng tā men de tián dì 、 pú táo yuán 、 gǎn lǎn yuán 、 fáng wū , bìng xiàng tā men suǒ qǔ de yín qián 、 liáng shí 、 xīn jiǔ , hé yóu , bǎi fēn zhī yī de lì xī dōu guī huán tā men 。」
Please restore to them, even today, their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, that you are charging them.”
zhòng rén shuō :「 wǒ men bì guī huán , bú zài xiàng tā men suǒ yào , bì zhào nǐ de huà xíng 。」 wǒ jiù zhào le jì sī lái , jiào zhòng rén qǐ shì , bì zhào zhe suǒ yīng xǔ de ér xíng 。
Then they said, “We will restore them, and will require nothing of them. We will do so, even as you say.” Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise.
wǒ yě dǒu zhe xiōng qián de yī jīn , shuō :「 fán bù chéng jiù zhè yīng xǔ de , yuàn shén zhào yàng dǒu tā lí kāi jiā chǎn hé tā láo lù dé lái de , zhí dào dǒu kōng le 。」 huì zhòng dōu shuō :「 ā men !」 yòu zàn měi yē hé huá 。 bǎi xìng jiù zhào zhe suǒ yīng xǔ de qù xíng 。
Also I shook out my lap, and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that doesn’t perform this promise; even may he be shaken out and emptied like this.” All the assembly said, “Amen,” and praised the LORD. The people did according to this promise.
zì cóng wǒ fèng pài zuò yóu dà dì de shěng zhǎng , jiù shì cóng yà dá xuē xī wáng èr shí nián zhí dào sān shí èr nián , gòng shí èr nián zhī jiǔ , wǒ yǔ wǒ dì xiong dōu méi yǒu chī shěng zhǎng de fèng lù 。
Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brothers have not eaten the bread of the governor.
zài wǒ yǐ qián de shěng zhǎng jiā zhòng bǎi xìng de dàn zi , měi rì suǒ yào liáng shí hé jiǔ , bìng yín zi sì shí shè kè lè , jiù shì tā men de pú rén yě xiá zhì bǎi xìng ; dàn wǒ yīn jìng wèi shén bú zhè yàng xíng 。
But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, plus forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people, but I didn’t do so, because of the fear of God.
bìng qiě wǒ héng xīn xiū zào chéng qiáng , bìng méi yǒu zhì mǎi tián dì ; wǒ de pú rén yě dōu jù jí zài nà lǐ zuò gōng 。
Yes, I also continued in the work of this wall. We didn’t buy any land. All my servants were gathered there to the work.
chú le cóng sì wéi wài bāng zhōng lái de yóu dà rén yǐ wài , yǒu yóu dà píng mín hé guān zhǎng yì bǎi wǔ shí rén zài wǒ xí shàng chī fàn 。
Moreover there were at my table, of the Jews and the rulers, one hundred fifty men, in addition to those who came to us from among the nations that were around us.
měi rì yù bèi yì zhī gōng niú , liù zhī féi yáng , yòu yù bèi xiē fēi qín ; měi shí rì yí cì , duō yù bèi gè yàng de jiǔ 。 suī rán rú cǐ , wǒ bìng bú yào shěng zhǎng de fèng lù , yīn wèi bǎi xìng fú yì shèn zhòng 。
Now that which was prepared for one day was one ox and six choice sheep. Also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days a store of all sorts of wine. Yet for all this, I didn’t demand the governor’s pay, because the bondage was heavy on this people.
wǒ de shén a , qiú nǐ jì niàn wǒ wèi zhè bǎi xìng suǒ xíng de yí qiè shì , shī ēn yǔ wǒ 。
Remember me, my God, for all the good that I have done for this people.
