1太初有道，道与 神同在，道就是 神。
tài chū yǒu dào ， dào yǔ shén tóng zài ， dào jiù shì shén 。
आदि में वचन था, और वचन परमेश्वर के साथ था, और वचन परमेश्वर था।
2这道太初与 神同在。
zhè dào tài chū yǔ shén tóng zài 。
यही आदि में परमेश्वर के साथ था।
3万物是借着他造的；凡被造的，没有一样不是借着他造的。
wàn wù shì jiè zhe tā zào de ； fán bèi zào de ， méi yǒu yí yàng bú shì jiè zhe tā zào de 。
सब कुछ उसी के द्वारा उत्पन्न हुआ और जो कुछ उत्पन्न हुआ है, उसमें से कोई भी वस्तु उसके बिना उत्पन्न न हुई।
4生命在他里头，这生命就是人的光。
shēng mìng zài tā lǐ tou ， zhè shēng mìng jiù shì rén de guāng 。
उसमें जीवन था ; और वह जीवन मनुष्यों की ज्योति था।
5光照在黑暗里，黑暗却不接受光。
guāng zhào zài hēi àn lǐ ， hēi àn què bù jiē shòu guāng 。
और ज्योति अंधकार में चमकती है; और अंधकार ने उसे ग्रहण न किया।
