bú yào wèi míng rì zì kuā , yīn wèi yí rì yào shēng hé shì , nǐ shàng qiě bù néng zhī dào 。

Don’t boast about tomorrow; for you don’t know what a day may bring.

yào bié rén kuā jiǎng nǐ , bù kě yòng kǒu zì kuā ; děng wài rén chēng zàn nǐ , bù kě yòng zuǐ zì chēng 。

Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

shí tou zhòng , shā tǔ chén , yú wàng rén de nǎo nù bǐ zhè liǎng yàng gèng zhòng 。

A stone is heavy, and sand is a burden; but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both.

fèn nù wèi cán rěn , nù qì wèi kuáng lán , wéi yǒu jí dù , shuí néng dí dé zhù ne ?

Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?

dāng miàn de zé bèi qiáng rú bèi dì de ài qíng 。

Better is open rebuke than hidden love.

péng yǒu jiā de shāng hén chū yú zhōng chéng ; chóu dí lián lián qīn zuǐ què shì duō yú 。

The wounds of a friend are faithful, although the kisses of an enemy are profuse.

rén chī bǎo le , yàn wù fēng fáng de mì ; rén jī è le , yí qiè kǔ wù dōu jué gān tián 。

A full soul loathes a honeycomb; but to a hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet.

rén lí běn chù piāo liú , hǎo xiàng què niǎo lí wō yóu fēi 。

As a bird that wanders from her nest, so is a man who wanders from his home.

使

gāo yóu yǔ xiāng liào shǐ rén xīn xǐ yuè ; péng yǒu chéng shí de quàn jiào yě shì rú cǐ gān měi 。

Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; so does earnest counsel from a man’s friend.

nǐ de péng yǒu hé fù qīn de péng yǒu , nǐ dōu bù kě lí qì 。 nǐ zāo nán de rì zi , bú yào shàng dì xiong de jiā qù ; xiāng jìn de lín shè qiáng rú yuǎn fāng de dì xiong 。

Don’t forsake your friend and your father’s friend. Don’t go to your brother’s house in the day of your disaster. A neighbor who is near is better than a distant brother.

使

wǒ ér , nǐ yào zuò zhì huì rén , hǎo jiào wǒ de xīn huān xǐ , shǐ wǒ kě yǐ huí dá nà jī qiào wǒ de rén 。

Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart, then I can answer my tormentor.

tōng dá rén jiàn huò cáng duǒ ; yú méng rén qián wǎng shòu hài 。

A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.

shuí wèi shēng rén zuò bǎo , jiù ná shuí de yī fu ; shuí wèi wài nǚ zuò bǎo , shuí jiù chéng dāng 。

Take his garment when he puts up collateral for a stranger. Hold it for a wayward woman!

qīng chén qǐ lái , dà shēng gěi péng yǒu zhù fú de , jiù suàn shì zhòu zǔ tā 。

He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be taken as a curse by him.

dà yǔ zhī rì lián lián dī lòu , hé zhēng chǎo de fù rén yí yàng ;

A continual dropping on a rainy day and a contentious wife are alike:

便

xiǎng lán zǔ tā de , biàn shì lán zǔ fēng , yě shì yòu shǒu zhuā yóu 。

restraining her is like restraining the wind, or like grasping oil in his right hand.

tiě mó tiě , mó chū rèn lái ; péng yǒu xiāng gǎn yě shì rú cǐ 。

Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance.

kān shǒu wú huā guǒ shù de , bì chī shù shàng de guǒ zǐ ; jìng fèng zhǔ rén de , bì dé zūn róng 。

Whoever tends the fig tree shall eat its fruit. He who looks after his master shall be honored.

shuǐ zhōng zhào liǎn , bǐ cǐ xiāng fú ; rén yǔ rén , xīn yě xiāng duì 。

Like water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.

yīn jiān hé miè wáng yǒng bù mǎn zú ; rén de yǎn mù yě shì rú cǐ 。

Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied; and a man’s eyes are never satisfied.

dǐng wèi liàn yín , lú wèi liàn jīn , rén de chēng zàn yě shì liàn rén 。

The crucible is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but man is refined by his praise.

nǐ suī yòng chǔ jiāng yú wàng rén yǔ dǎ suì de mài zi yì tóng dǎo zài jiù zhōng , tā de yú wàng hái shì lí bù liǎo tā 。

Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with grain, yet his foolishness will not be removed from him.

nǐ yào xiáng xì zhī dào nǐ yáng qún de jǐng kuàng , liú xīn liào lǐ nǐ de niú qún ;

Know well the state of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds,

yīn wèi zī cái bù néng yǒng yǒu , guān miǎn qǐ néng cún dào wàn dài ?

for riches are not forever, nor does the crown endure to all generations.

gān cǎo gē qù , nèn cǎo fā xiàn , shān shàng de cài shū yě bèi shōu liǎn 。

The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, the grasses of the hills are gathered in.

yáng gāo zhī máo shì wèi nǐ zuò yī fu ; shān yáng shì wèi zuò tián dì de jià zhí ,

The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of a field.

bìng yǒu mǔ shān yáng nǎi gòu nǐ chī , yě gòu nǐ de jiā juàn chī , qiě gòu yǎng nǐ de bì nǚ 。

There will be plenty of goats’ milk for your food, for your family’s food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls.
