就探深浅，探得有十二丈；稍往前行，又探深浅，探得有九丈。
jiù tàn shēn qiǎn ， tàn dé yǒu shí èr zhàng ； shāo wǎng qián xíng ， yòu tàn shēn qiǎn ， tàn dé yǒu jiǔ zhàng 。
They took soundings and found twenty fathoms. After a little while, they took soundings again, and found fifteen fathoms.
