lùn dào jì ǒu xiàng zhī wù , wǒ men xiǎo de wǒ men dōu yǒu zhī shi 。 dàn zhī shi shì jiào rén zì gāo zì dà , wéi yǒu ài xīn néng zào jiù rén 。

Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

ruò yǒu rén yǐ wéi zì jǐ zhī dào shén me , àn tā suǒ dāng zhī dào de , tā réng shì bù zhī dào 。

But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he doesn’t yet know as he ought to know.

ruò yǒu rén ài shén , zhè rén nǎi shì shén suǒ zhī dào de 。

But anyone who loves God is known by him.

lùn dào chī jì ǒu xiàng zhī wù , wǒ men zhī dào ǒu xiàng zài shì shàng suàn bù dé shén me , yě zhī dào shén zhǐ yǒu yí wèi , zài méi yǒu bié de shén 。

Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

suī yǒu chēng wèi shén de , huò zài tiān , huò zài dì , jiù rú nà xǔ duō de shén , xǔ duō de zhǔ ;

For though there are things that are called “gods”, whether in the heavens or on earth—as there are many “gods” and many “lords”—

rán ér wǒ men zhǐ yǒu yí wèi shén , jiù shì fù — wàn wù dōu běn yú tā ; wǒ men yě guī yú tā — bìng yǒu yí wèi zhǔ , jiù shì yē sū jī dū — wàn wù dōu shì jiè zhe tā yǒu de ; wǒ men yě shì jiè zhe tā yǒu de 。

yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.

dàn rén bù dōu yǒu zhè děng zhī shi 。 yǒu rén dào rú jīn yīn bài guàn le ǒu xiàng , jiù yǐ wéi suǒ chī de shì jì ǒu xiàng zhī wù 。 tā men de liáng xīn jì rán ruǎn ruò , yě jiù wū huì le 。

However, that knowledge isn’t in all men. But some, with consciousness of an idol until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

qí shí shí wù bù néng jiào shén kàn zhòng wǒ men , yīn wèi wǒ men bù chī yě wú sǔn , chī yě wú yì 。

But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we don’t eat are we the worse, nor if we eat are we the better.

zhǐ shì nǐ men yào jǐn shèn , kǒng pà nǐ men zhè zì yóu jìng chéng le nà ruǎn ruò rén de bàn jiǎo shí 。

But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.

ruò yǒu rén jiàn nǐ zhè yǒu zhī shi de , zài ǒu xiàng de miào lǐ zuò xí , zhè rén de liáng xīn ruò shì ruǎn ruò , qǐ bú fàng dǎn qù chī nà jì ǒu xiàng zhī wù ma ?

For if a man sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol’s temple, won’t his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

yīn cǐ , jī dū wèi tā sǐ de nà ruǎn ruò dì xiong , yě jiù yīn nǐ de zhī shi chén lún le 。

And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whose sake Christ died.

nǐ men zhè yàng dé zuì dì xiong men , shāng le tā men ruǎn ruò de liáng xīn , jiù shì dé zuì jī dū 。

Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

suǒ yǐ , shí wù ruò jiào wǒ dì xiong diē dǎo , wǒ jiù yǒng yuǎn bù chī ròu , miǎn de jiào wǒ dì xiong diē dǎo le 。

Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat forever more, that I don’t cause my brother to stumble.
