wǒ xīn lǐ shuō :「 lái ba , wǒ yǐ xǐ lè shì shì nǐ , nǐ hǎo xiǎng fú !」 shuí zhī , zhè yě shì xū kōng 。

I said in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with mirth; therefore enjoy pleasure;” and behold, this also was vanity.

wǒ zhǐ xī xiào shuō :「 zhè shì kuáng wàng 。」 lùn xǐ lè shuō :「 yǒu hé gōng xiào ne ?」

I said of laughter, “It is foolishness;” and of mirth, “What does it accomplish?”

wǒ xīn lǐ chá jiū , rú hé yòng jiǔ shǐ wǒ ròu tǐ shū chàng , wǒ xīn què réng yǐ zhì huì yǐn dǎo wǒ ; yòu rú hé chí zhù yú mèi , děng wǒ kàn míng shì rén , zài tiān xià yì shēng dāng xíng hé shì wèi měi 。

I searched in my heart how to cheer my flesh with wine, my heart yet guiding me with wisdom, and how to lay hold of folly, until I might see what it was good for the sons of men that they should do under heaven all the days of their lives.

wǒ wèi zì jǐ dòng dà gōng chéng , jiàn zào fáng wū , zāi zhòng pú táo yuán ,

I made myself great works. I built myself houses. I planted myself vineyards.

修造園囿,在其中栽種各樣果木樹;

xiū zào yuán yòu , zài qí zhōng zāi zhòng gè yàng guǒ mù shù ;

I made myself gardens and parks, and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruit.

wā zào shuǐ chí , yòng yǐ jiāo guàn nèn xiǎo de shù mù 。

I made myself pools of water, to water the forest where trees were grown.

wǒ mǎi le pú bì , yě yǒu shēng zài jiā zhōng de pú bì ; yòu yǒu xǔ duō niú qún yáng qún , shèng guò yǐ qián zài yē lù sā lěng zhòng rén suǒ yǒu de 。

I bought male servants and female servants, and had servants born in my house. I also had great possessions of herds and flocks, above all who were before me in Jerusalem.

wǒ yòu wèi zì jǐ jī xù jīn yín hé jūn wáng de cái bǎo , bìng gè shěng de cái bǎo ; yòu dé chàng gē de nán nǚ hé shì rén suǒ xǐ ài de wù , bìng xǔ duō de fēi pín 。

I also gathered silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and of the provinces. I got myself male and female singers, and the delights of the sons of men: musical instruments of all sorts.

zhè yàng , wǒ jiù rì jiàn chāng shèng , shèng guò yǐ qián zài yē lù sā lěng de zhòng rén 。 wǒ de zhì huì réng rán cún liú 。

So I was great, and increased more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. My wisdom also remained with me.

fán wǒ yǎn suǒ qiú de , wǒ méi yǒu liú xià bù gěi tā de ; wǒ xīn suǒ lè de , wǒ méi yǒu jìn zhǐ bù xiǎng shòu de ; yīn wǒ de xīn wèi wǒ yí qiè suǒ láo lù de kuài lè , zhè jiù shì wǒ cóng láo lù zhōng suǒ dé de fēn 。

Whatever my eyes desired, I didn’t keep from them. I didn’t withhold my heart from any joy, for my heart rejoiced because of all my labor, and this was my portion from all my labor.

hòu lái , wǒ chá kàn wǒ shǒu suǒ jīng yíng de yí qiè shì hé wǒ láo lù suǒ chéng de gōng 。 shuí zhī dōu shì xū kōng , dōu shì bǔ fēng ; zài rì guāng zhī xià háo wú yì chù 。

Then I looked at all the works that my hands had worked, and at the labor that I had labored to do; and behold, all was vanity and a chasing after wind, and there was no profit under the sun.

wǒ zhuǎn niàn guān kàn zhì huì 、 kuáng wàng , hé yú mèi 。 zài wáng yǐ hòu ér lái de rén hái néng zuò shén me ne ? yě bú guò xíng zǎo xiān suǒ xíng de jiù shì le 。

I turned myself to consider wisdom, madness, and folly; for what can the king’s successor do? Just that which has been done long ago.

wǒ biàn kàn chū zhì huì shèng guò yú mèi , rú tóng guāng míng shèng guò hēi àn 。

Then I saw that wisdom excels folly, as far as light excels darkness.

zhì huì rén de yǎn mù guāng míng , yú mèi rén zài hēi àn lǐ xíng 。 wǒ què kàn míng yǒu yí jiàn shì , zhè liǎng děng rén dōu bì yù jiàn 。

The wise man’s eyes are in his head, and the fool walks in darkness—and yet I perceived that one event happens to them all.

wǒ jiù xīn lǐ shuō :「 yú mèi rén suǒ yù jiàn de , wǒ yě bì yù jiàn , wǒ wèi hé gèng yǒu zhì huì ne ?」 wǒ xīn lǐ shuō , zhè yě shì xū kōng 。

Then I said in my heart, “As it happens to the fool, so will it happen even to me; and why was I then more wise?” Then I said in my heart that this also is vanity.

zhì huì rén hé yú mèi rén yí yàng , yǒng yuǎn wú rén jì niàn , yīn wèi rì hòu dōu bèi wàng jì ; kě tàn zhì huì rén sǐ wáng , yǔ yú mèi rén wú yì 。

For of the wise man, even as of the fool, there is no memory forever, since in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. Indeed, the wise man must die just like the fool!

wǒ suǒ yǐ hèn è shēng mìng ; yīn wèi zài rì guāng zhī xià suǒ xíng de shì wǒ dōu yǐ wéi fán nǎo , dōu shì xū kōng , dōu shì bǔ fēng 。

So I hated life, because the work that is worked under the sun was grievous to me; for all is vanity and a chasing after wind.

wǒ hèn è yí qiè de láo lù , jiù shì wǒ zài rì guāng zhī xià de láo lù , yīn wèi wǒ dé lái de bì liú gěi wǒ yǐ hòu de rén 。

I hated all my labor in which I labored under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who comes after me.

nà rén shì zhì huì shì yú mèi , shuí néng zhī dào ? tā jìng yào guǎn lǐ wǒ láo lù suǒ dé de , jiù shì wǒ zài rì guāng zhī xià yòng zhì huì suǒ dé de 。 zhè yě shì xū kōng 。

Who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have rule over all of my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

gù cǐ , wǒ zhuǎn xiǎng wǒ zài rì guāng zhī xià suǒ láo lù de yí qiè gōng zuò , xīn biàn jué wàng 。

Therefore I began to cause my heart to despair concerning all the labor in which I had labored under the sun.

yīn wèi yǒu rén yòng zhì huì 、 zhī shi 、 líng qiǎo suǒ láo lù dé lái de , què yào liú gěi wèi céng láo lù de rén wéi fēn 。 zhè yě shì xū kōng , yě shì dà huàn 。

For there is a man whose labor is with wisdom, with knowledge, and with skillfulness; yet he shall leave it for his portion to a man who has not labored for it. This also is vanity and a great evil.

rén zài rì guāng zhī xià láo lù lèi xīn , zài tā yí qiè de láo lù shàng dé zhe shén me ne ?

For what does a man have of all his labor and of the striving of his heart, in which he labors under the sun?

yīn wèi tā rì rì yōu lǜ , tā de láo kǔ chéng wéi chóu fán , lián yè jiān xīn yě bù ān 。 zhè yě shì xū kōng 。

For all his days are sorrows, and his travail is grief; yes, even in the night his heart takes no rest. This also is vanity.

rén mò qiáng rú chī hē , qiě zài láo lù zhōng xiǎng fú , wǒ kàn zhè yě shì chū yú shén de shǒu 。

There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.

lùn dào chī yòng 、 xiǎng fú , shuí néng shèng guò wǒ ne ?

For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, more than I?

shén xǐ yuè shuí , jiù gěi shuí zhì huì 、 zhī shi , hé xǐ lè ; wéi yǒu zuì rén , shén shǐ tā láo kǔ , jiào tā jiāng suǒ shōu jù de 、 suǒ duī jī de guī gěi shén suǒ xǐ yuè de rén 。 zhè yě shì xū kōng , yě shì bǔ fēng 。

For to the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who pleases God. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.
